IFAS processes denoting Integrated Biofilm Activated Sludge System are an evolution of the MBBR systems. These are reactors in which biological processes are active with the coexistence of suspended biomass attached to supports.ASCO Pompe's solution provides that the adhered fraction can grow freely on fixed supports. IFAS system allows for higher rates of organic matter oxidation and nitrification, adapting to the cases of modernization of existing overloaded systems. This allows volumes to be reduced compared to a conventional activated sludge system. Individual sludge in the final clarifier is recirculated at the edge of the biological reactor, and activated sludge is formed. Compared to traditional enclosures, the proposed solution avoids the need for containment shells and mixers to hold the enclosures in suspension, and the stationary system also allows to install highly efficient microbubble diffusers.
Polypropylene textile belts are the core element of Cleartec-Textile growth surfaces. This material provides high strength and resistance to chemical, biological and mechanical influences on the process. Straps are placed on flexible textile elements that form the basis of the mesh structure 96 cm wide; 16 stripes (development zones) with a width of 2.5 cm are placed on each mesh structure. Each stripe is a special weave of polypropylene threads. This multitude of weaves forms a large interior surface that is ideal for microbial adhesion.
Cleartec® BioCurlz is used as a fully submerged fixed bed at the biological level of a wastewater treatment plant. Polyvinyl hydrochloride (69%) and polypropylene (31%) filaments woven around a stainless steel reinforced polypropylene strip stand as the core element of Cleartec-BioCurlz.Length of the elements depends on the application and reaches a maximum of 3.5 m.Compared to the Cleartec-Textile system, this solution offers a larger surface area than the occupied surface, providing higher productivity with the same volume occupied.
